Madhya Pradesh : Orchha

Orchha literally means ‘hidden’ and this small village is just that secluded and still has an old age charm. The 16th century fort and the town was formed by Bundelas.

How to reach Orchha :

Jhansi is the nearest Railway station. Private Auto Rickshaws from Jhansi Railway station takes almost 250-300 INR, as we had stayed in Jhasni the previous day, we booked a rickshaw early in the morning and left for Orchha sight seeing.

Accommodation:

This small village has more hotels and restaurants than people. We stayed at Jhansi which cost us 2500/- INR per day for 5 people (prices may differ from season to season). You can also book online, rooms through apps such as OYO and Booking.com.

Best time to visit:

Unless you want a good tan, we suggest you visit Orchha between the months of August to March. But we visited Orchha in the month of July. The weather was a bit hot and humid but it can also be considered a time to visit the place

Places to Visit in Orchha:

We mainly visited three places during our one day trip.

  • The Orchha fort in which we visited the Raja Mahal – Jahagir Mahal – Sheesh Mahal.
  • The Bhul Bhulaiiya or Chatrabhuj temple
  • The Ram Raja Temple.

One day is enough to visit these places you can start from the Fort and then move towards the other spots as you get a common ticket for all the spots at the Fort.

Tip : Hire a guide for 300/- INR and it will be worth the money as you will get to know so much more about the place instead of wandering aimlessly. If you want you can hire most knowledgeable and educated guide in town SANJAY SINGH – 8349750943 (he is also very fun and jolly guy)
